A room can feel cluttered even when it has plenty of storage. Before buying another cabinet, notice where everyday objects end up and how you move through the space.
Keep the walking routes clear
Walk from the door to the sofa, windows and storage areas. Mark the spots where you have to turn sideways or step around furniture. Measure those routes before choosing a side table or basket; product photos rarely show how much room an item needs in your home.
Store things where you use them
Keep remotes, tissues and charging cables within easy reach. Put less-used items together in labelled boxes. Grouping similar things also makes it easier to see what you already own.
Check before buying storage furniture
- Measure the wall and note outlets, doors and heating vents.
- Make sure doors and drawers can open without blocking a walkway.
- Sort what you own first, then estimate the space you actually need.
If the same objects return to the coffee table a week later, a more convenient place for them may help more than another container.
