A sofa can fit on a floor plan and still feel too large in the room. Think about the route into your home, the space around it and how you use it every day.
Sketch the room
Record the length and width of the room, plus doors, windows, outlets and fixed features. Mark the sofa’s proposed footprint on the floor with painter’s tape. Sit where you normally would and check the distance to the coffee table, television and main walkway.
Measure the delivery route
Check stair turns, elevator doors, entry doors and hallways. Ask the seller for the packaged dimensions, whether the sofa can be disassembled and what delivery and assembly include.
Sit with your habits in mind
Seat depth, back support and cushion firmness all affect daily comfort. Seat height matters if someone at home finds it difficult to stand up. Choose upholstery with your cleaning routine, pets and sunlight in mind.
Before paying, keep a record of the exact dimensions, upholstery, delivery terms and return policy.
